Trumpet Players - Learn Where It All Began

Profile Of The Trumpet

The sound from a trumpet is made when the musician vibrates his lips over the mouthpiece while pressing the valves on top. Mouthpieces can be changed which changes the sound a little.

Where It All Began

I have read several articles about where the trumpet originated and the most common one is that it came from Egypt in 1500 BC. There are variations of the trumpet, such as a coronet bugle, or fluegel horn.

Germany was intramental in emerging with the valve trumpet in 1828. Eventually someone made some more changes to the trumpet and came up with what we now call the trombone.

In today's world, lots of high school children and men and women are interested in playing the trumpet. Some famous trumpeters are Louis Armstrong, Donald Byrd, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Maynard Ferguson. I personally remember Johnny Carsons band leader, Doc Sevenson as a great trumpet player.

Now that you know the history of the trumpet, if you are wanting to play the trumpet you will need to buy one. I always recommend for beginners and intermediate plays to purchase a less expensive horn first. Horns can be expensive so it is best to learn on a cheaper one and then if you plan on making music your career you can trade up. You should be able to find brand new trumpets on eBay starting around $99.00 and up. Good luck finding the music in your life!
