Good Auction Photos

Equals Cash In Camera

Auction photos are extremely important, however you don't need to

be a great photographer. You can turn out great pictures with

just a few tricks of the trade.

A regular camera takes good photos but a digital camera is easier

and better for you eBay listings. With a digital camera you can

see the auction photos right away and if they are bad, you just

quickly take them again.

Do I need A Background?

When I take my photos I put items, that will fit, on a table. I cover the table with a black or white sheet, depending on what the item colors are.

If I have a lot of items being sold together, like clothes, I lay them out on my carpet. You can still put the cloths down for background if needed.

Because you want the items to be seen clearly and close up, you may need to take several shots of smaller groups. When you list your item you can display all the photos.

Keep Photo Area Uncluttered

Don't have a mess in the background that could possibly get into your picture. That is a real turn off to me. If you see that there is something in the background after you take the photo, try to crop down to just the item if possible.

A Few Key Tips

If the item is a name brand, take a photo of that. For ceramics, etc., be sure and take shots of the front, back, sides, and bottom to show there are no cracks.

In your description you need to always give sizes, height, and width because the photos can't always show the true size.

Items That Reflect

Jewlery, mirrors and other items that reflect usually don't need a flash. A little experimentation may be needed on those type items.

Great Shots + Good Descriptions = Success!

You now have fantastic photos so describe your items in a way that will make people want to buy.

Wrong Way

This auction is for a set of china that belonged to my grandmother. They are about fifty years old but still in good shape.

Right Way

Compliment your home with this vintage china set that served many happy meals in my grandmothers country home. All the delicate pieces are in good condition and ready for a new loving home.

Now you see the difference? Which description makes you more interested in the china?

Just jump in with both feel and get your items listed. Most importantly, have fun.

Remember if you use Auctiva to post your listings you can list all your auction photos for free. If you use eBay to list, you get one photos free and are charged for the rest.
