Local Auctions
Attending local auctions is a great way to find bargains on almost anything you can want or need. Anything and everything can be and is sold at auction. No matter where you live, there are bound to be auctions found somewhere in your state. Some auctions will sell a mix of items such as police auctions, self-storage auctions and estate auctions. Others will be category auctions limited to auctioning off specific items like vehicles, boats, real estate, guns and livestock.
Bidding at Auction
Before you can bid on an item up for auction, you must register. You will be given a number that you will use to place your bid. Items up for auction will also have a number. This numbering starts at one and goes up from there. This system allows bidders to have an idea of when the item they want to bid on will be placed up for bid. Items up for auction are on display for prospective buyers to look at before the bidding begins. This allows buyers to inspect the items and decide if they want to bid on them or not.
Personal Belongings
Liquidating a person’s belongings after they die is one way for family members to divide the assets. One way is to contact an auctioneer and to have an estate auction. The auctioneer will review the contents of the deceased’s home and determine how to proceed with the estate auction. Fees may be a percentage of the gross auction sales, a commission and a percentage of sales or a set fee. The auctioneer may also request the right to set up a concession stand during the auction. Holding local auctions to liquidate personal belongings allows friends and relatives to purchase items of sentimental value. If the property is to be included, the auctioneer may need to be licensed to sell real estate.
Real Estate
When real estate is placed on the auction block, a starting bid is generally set. Prospective buyers should contact the auctioneer to ask about prerequisites such as loan pre-approval, terms of the sale that might require a specific type of down payment. Local auctions of property may involve a real estate broker who can arrange showings of the property prior to the real estate auction.
Vehicles
Many large automobile dealerships will hold local auctions to lower their inventory of used vehicles. Charitable organizations, school districts, state and government agencies may choose to dispose of out-of-date trucks and car by means of vehicle auctions. Contact the auctioneer prior to attending to learn about the terms of sale. Depending on the auctioneer, cash or a certified check may be required.
Household and Personal Items
Clothing, jewelry, tools, dishes and other items may be purchased in lots and taken to local auction houses. Many auctioneers purchase the entire contents of a home, office or a group of items that someone no longer wants. Unlike a garage sale, the auctioneer offers a price for all the items instead of selling each item individually. Most auction houses have a set time and day for auctions, and will place specific items up for bid on certain days.
Local auctions are a fun and exciting way to purchase items that you are looking for.
